2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs 2017 Honda Pilot near Cleveland, OH

Customers shopping for a new SUV have an array of options, which can make the shopping process a bit overwhelming. Jeep has simplified the task with their 2017 Grand Cherokee. The Grand Cherokee has everything you need in an SUV--sophistication, family-friendly features, and off-road capability. For 2017, the Grand Cherokees now includes a rearview camera with rear parking sensors and an available self-parking system and lane departure warning system. In addition, a new Trailhawk trim has been introduced, which is tailored for the extreme outdoor enthusiast with its advanced off-road components and design features. Competing against the Grand Cherokee is another notable SUV, the 2017 Honda Pilot. The 2017 Honda Pilot is a versatile SUV that is family friendly and also available with four-wheel drive. The 2017 Honda Pilot now has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatible with their infotainment system, but there have been no other updates or no new trim levels for this year.

2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Power & Handling

Every Grand Cherokee comes standard with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 295 hp and 260 pound-feet of torque. Also available is a 5.7-liter V8 engine or a turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel V6 engine on the higher trim levels. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard with all engine options. Rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive are both options for every trim (except the Trailhawk). Unique to Jeep are the three four-wheel drive systems that are available, which are trim-specific. The new Trailhawk trim comes ready for action with one of these systems, the Quadra-Drive II, along with all-terrain tires, an electronic rear limited-slip differential, and a specially tuned air suspension.

2017 Honda Pilot Power & Handling

The 2017 Honda Pilot only has one engine option, a 3.5-liter V6 engine, capable of 280 horsepower and 262 lb-feet of torque. The engine is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission, although a nine-speed automatic transmission is standard in the two highest trims. Front-wheel drive is standard, but the Pilot does offer a four-wheel drive option in all their trims. The Pilot only offers one four-wheel drive system, although there is a traction management system added to it. This system offers a snow, sand and mud mode for increased traction on various terrains. The Pilot is not designed for heavier off-roading, and it is more suited for daily road use and not the great outdoors.

2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Features & Design

The Grand Cherokee is available in five trim levels and there are numerous packages available for customizing your vehicle. There are even Mopar parts and accessories to create a more unique-looking SUV. The Grand Cherokee is generously equipped at every trim level. Even the base trim comes with automatic headlights, foglights, a rearview camera with rear parking sensors, heated mirrors, keyless ignition and entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, Bluetooth, and so much more. The notable Trailhawk trim adds power-folding mirrors, ventilated front seats, the 8.4-inch touchscreen, a nine-speaker sound system, and its numerous off-road add-ons. The interior features of the Trailhawk allows a family to enjoy the thrill of the outdoors with comfort and convenient technology.

2017 Honda Pilot Features & Design

The 2017 Pilot also has five trim levels, but it does not offer quite as many options for customization. The base trim includes air-conditioning, cruise control, a standard vinyl-wrapped steering wheel, a 5-inch central display screen with a rearview camera, Bluetooth, auxiliary and USB ports, and more. The Pilot's highest trim, the Elite, offers luxury features, such as heated front and rear seats, leather interior, and more, but it is definitely more tailored for the urban family.

If you want a well-equipped and thoughtfully designed SUV with an adventurous spirit, then the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the best option. The Grand Cherokee allows you more options for customization and has a broader range of powertrain options. The Honda Pilot is a reliable vehicle with many valuable features, but it lacks the personality that is found in a Jeep. It also limits your freedom with its inferior off-road capability. We would love to help you in your vehicle purchase decision. Come down today so you can test drive a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee!
