2017 RAM 1500 Power & Handling

Made for customization, the 2017 RAM 1500 offers three cab styles, three bed options, three optional engines and ten unique trim levels. The standard drive train is rear-wheel drive, but four-wheel drive is available, and both utilize a two-speed transfer case. The four-wheel drive system comes in two styles, a traditional part-time manual-mode selection system or an automatic four-wheel drive mode that reads the road and alternates between rear- and four-wheel drive as needed. RAM's unique air-suspension system is adjustable, offering four inches of lift/lowering capabilities for extra clearance. Under the hood the 1500 offers a standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine that generates 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque, easily topping the F-150's 282 horsepower. For ecologically-minded truck drivers, the 2017 RAM 1500 also offers a unique EcoDiesel 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces 240 horsepower and a whopping 420 lb-ft of torque. The final option for the 2017 RAM 1500 is a 5.7-liter V8 engine with variable-valve timing and a tow-load capacity of 10,690 pounds! The 5.7-liter engine generates 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque, more than enough to tackle whatever life throws at you!

2017 Ford F-150 Power & Handling

The 2017 Ford F-150 required and received several major updates in 2017, correcting some of the issues that had been raised by consumers in previous years. A redesigned 3.5-liter V6 engine is offered with a fuel-economizing 10-speed transmission, and gets 282 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque. Another option is the 2.7-liter V6, which provides 325 horsepower and 375 lb-ft of torque or the 5.0-liter V8 which produces 385 horsepower and 387 lb-ft of torque.  Both transmissions are paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. Finally, a turbocharged version of the 3.5-liter V6 can be ordered, with 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, and this engine is found standard on the F-150 Raptor model.

The beds are offered in a 5-foot-5-inch, 6-foot-5-inch of 8-foot configuration. Standard features include manual windows and mirrors, vinyl flooring, a four-speaker audio system and an underwhelming 4.2-inch display screen. If you need a tough, agile truck that can handle any job you throw at it, the 2017 light-duty truck segment offers some winners! The 2017 RAM 1500 features a unique air-suspension system that cushions the cab for the most comfortable ride! Stability controls, traction controls, trailer-sway controls, hill-start assistance and antilock brakes are all standard on the 1500, adding to its legacy of excellence. The clunky body of the F-150 is helped by its aluminum body panels, which cut down on weight, but still misses the agility of the powerful 1500.
