2018 Jeep Cherokee vs 2018 Honda CR-V near Cleveland, OH

As 2018 approaches, it may be time to upgrade to a new mid-size crossover SUV. There are many to choose from, but we suggest taking a closer look at the new Jeep Cherokee and Honda CR-V models. Jeep has adjusted its trim levels and added the Latitude Plus. Honda hasn't made any new changes for this year, but underwent a complete overhaul of the CR-V in 2017. The details of these two models are explored in the paragraphs below.

2018 Jeep Cherokee Power & Handling

The standard for all models is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 184-hp, 171 lb-ft of torque. If seeking additional output, a second V6 3.2-liter engine can also be chosen. This engine raises the horsepower and torque to 271 hp and 239 lb-ft. On both engines, front wheel or all-wheel drive may be selected with a nine-speed automatic transmission. If searching for an off-road experience, the Trailhawk edition trim excels like no other SUV with an advanced all-wheel-drive system, suspension tuning, and all-terrain tires.

2018 Honda CR-V Power & Handling

The Honda CR-V has two engines as well. The first is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 184 hp, 180 lb-ft of torque which is nearly the same level of power as Jeep's standard engine. The second engine offering is a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 190 hp and 179 lb-ft. This is significantly less powerful than the comparable V6 that the Jeep Cherokee offers. The standard transmission for the CR-V is a continuously variable transmission, which is paired with front-wheel drive.

2018 Jeep Cherokee Features & Design

With the Cherokee, there is a choice of five different trims: The Latitude, Latitude Plus, The Limited, Trailhawk, and the Overland. On the Latitude, standard features are 17-inch wheels, xenon headlights, height-adjustable front seats, sliding and reclining rear seats with 60/40-split folding seatbacks, a folding front passenger seat with a storage compartment inside the seat cushion, Bluetooth, a rearview camera, a USB charge-only port, a 5-inch touchscreen interface and a six-speaker audio system. Several of the higher trim features are optional as add-ons that can be selected with the lower level trims, which gives the buyer the opportunity for advanced personalization.

2018 Honda CR-V Features & Design

The Honda CR-V has four different models: the LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring. The base model is a bit limited. It features an electronic parking brake, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED running lights, automatic climate control, cruise control, a height-adjustable driver seat, a 5-inch  color LCD dashboard display, and a four-speaker audio system with Bluetooth and  USB connectivity. Honda has greatly advanced safety technologies, but they are not offered on the LX and buyers will need to upgrade to at least the EX in order to access them.

The Honda CR-V has some great components, but its base level trim is lacking. The Jeep Cherokee has excellent engine options and more desirable features, which is why we recommend it as the 2018 SUV to buy this year. Visit our dealership today to speak with a representative.
