2018 RAM 1500 vs 2018 Chevrolet Silverado near Cleveland, OH

If you need a pickup truck with a lot of engine power and towing capacity, you're probably considering the 2018 RAM 1500 or Chevrolet Silverado. Both of these trucks have a long history of exemplary performance. For the new year, RAM has added a top-level Limited Tungsten edition and a midtier Harvest edition to its lineup, while Chevy has made a few features, a rearview camera and 7-inch touchscreen, standard for its base models. Read on to discover more about the power, handling, features, and design of these two pickups.

2018 RAM 1500 Power & Handling

The 1500 brings you three great engine choices for the 1500. All three engines are interchangeable regardless of trim level; the buyer can personalize their 1500 to meet their individual needs. The first standard option is a 3.6-liter V6 with 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. The Rebel, Laramie Longhorn and Limited come standard with an upgraded V8 5.7-liter engine (395 hp, 410 lb-ft). The third engine is a diesel alternative, which has a 3.0-liter diesel V6 (240 hp, 420 lb-ft). All three engines are paired with an eight-speed transmission and the option of selecting either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

2018 Chevrolet Silverado Power & Handling

The Silverado lineup also features three engine options. The standard base engine is a 4.3-liter V6 with 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque. This is less powerful than the 1500's base engine. Following this are two V8 engines, the first being a 5.3-liter V8 (355 hp, 383 lb-ft) and the second which brings the power with a 6.2-liter V8 (420 hp, 460 lb-ft). All three of these engines pair with just a six-speed automatic transmission and either two- or four-wheel drive. Chevy limits engine placement for its high-powered V8 engine to the top two trims, the LTZ and High Country.

2018 RAM 1500 Features & Design

The RAM 1500 has a great variety of eleven different trim levels that each have something different to offer a prospective buyer. The Tradesman and Express, the first two trims, can be described as "workhorse" vehicles. The Big Horn, popular in Texas, offers more amenities such as upgraded cloth seating with a power-adjustable driver seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The brand new Harvest trim gets two unique colors, additional ground clearance, all-terrain tires, black tubular side steps, skid plates and tow hooks, and a chrome grille. For those that seek intense off-road ability, the Rebel adds 17-inch wheels and all-terrain tires, black fender flares, Bilstein shock absorbers, tow hooks, LED fog lights and keyless entry. No matter the trim, RAM delivers a smooth ride and lots of capability.

2018 Chevrolet Silverado Features & Design

With eight trim options, the Silverado has an array of features to choose from. The base model comes with 17-inch steel wheels, xenon headlights, black front and rear bumpers, a bed light, a rearview camera, cruise control, power door locks, a tilt-only steering column, a driver information display, and vinyl seating. Standard technology features on the Silverado are a 7-inch touchscreen with Chevrolet's MyLink interface, Bluetooth and a six-speaker audio system with a USB port, an auxiliary audio jack, and smartphone compatibility via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Features on higher trim levels include amenities such as 20-inch chrome wheels, front and rear parking sensors, chrome side step rails, cargo box tie-downs, a  spray-on bedliner, a trailer brake controller, a heated steering wheel, a seven-speaker Bose audio system, and a navigation system.

Conclusions

Both the Chevy Silverado and the RAM 1500 have an array of cab configurations and desirable trim options.
