Whether you want to take off-road adventure to new places or simply get around town on all-electric power, the Wrangler 4xe is ready with an EPA estimated 49 MPGe rating. E-Selec driving modes that utilize Power Routing enable you to optimize performance while eliminating range anxiety.

E-Selec driving modes put you in control. Electric Mode uses only battery power for low-emissions zones in cities or quiet off-roading with maximum torque and horsepower, while eSave Mode reserves battery power for later. Hybrid Mode gives you the best of both worlds. Preproduction model shown.

The default mode, Hybrid, combines torque from both the 2.0L turbocharged engine and the electric motors. This combination provides maximum horsepower, instant torque and the best acceleration. Electric power is consumed first.

When the battery has more than a 1% charge, it can run in Electric Mode. This allows for nearly zero tailpipe emissions up to highway speeds. The vehicle can run in this mode for up to 21 miles.

The Wrangler 4xe system is paired with a 2.0L I4 DOHC direct-injection Turbo PHEV engine to bring out the best in already proven Jeep® Brand 4x4 capability. A 16-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, regenerative brake booster and eight-speed automatic transmission work together to send impressive amounts of power and torque to each wheel, maximizing the capability of every component. The sealed and waterproof battery pack and electronics even perform in tough conditions like fording creeks and streams up to 30 inches in depth. Preproduction model shown.

Climb over tough obstacles and go an electrifying 0-60 mph in 6 seconds. A plug-in hybrid turbocharged engine gives the Wrangler 4xe an impressive 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of instant torque for heart-pounding performance off-road and on-road.

What is the 2021 Wrangler 4xe hybrid powertrain?

Great question! The 4xe's power and efficiency start with a turbocharged 2.0L Inline-4 cylinder engine. The engine is mated to a robust TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission. The I4 is mated with two electric generators, one on the cylinder head and the other mounted in front of the transmission. These generators are powered by a 400-volt battery pack underneath the rear seat. This setup gives the Wrangler 4xe its performance specs of 375 horsepower, 470 lb-ft of torque, and 49 MPG. The 4xe's E-Selec drive modes are in place to give drivers a customizable hybrid driving experience. Hybrid mode uses both electric and gas power to provide up to 49 MPG. E-Save mode disables the electric generators and only uses gas power. This saves the electric power for a later time. Adversely, Electric mode disables the gas engine for up to 21 miles of silent, zero-emissions driving. Charging is done with a standard 120-volt Level-I electric vehicle charger, while a 240-volt Level II charger is available. Charging is also achieved by regenerative braking. This technology charges the 4xe battery while the vehicle is braking or decelerating.

What are the trim levels and features of the 2021 Wrangler 4xe?

As an extension of the Wrangler lineup, the 4xe comes with three main trim levels, Sahara, Rubicon, and High Altitude. With the 4xe still being a Wrangler, you'll still find a removable top with a sunroof, removable doors, and a fold-down windshield for the iconic open-air freedom. The 4xe will also be home to features from the higher gas-powered Wrangler trims. Standard features on the Sahara include 20-inch alloy wheels, body-colored fender flares, leather-trimmed seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 9-speaker Alpine premium audio system, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen with Uconnect 4C NAV. Uconnect 4C NAV infotainment software includes Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration, navigation, hybrid electric pages to monitor efficiency and usage, and more. The Rubicon focuses on the Wrangler's off-road prowess with Rock-Trac 4x4, electronic limited-slip differentials, all-terrain tires, and more. Topping off the lineup is the fittingly named High Altitude. This adds more luxury with quilted leather-trimmed seats, heated front seats, LED exterior lighting, body-colored exterior accents, and more.

What Can You Tell Me About the 4xe's Capability?

The short answer to that question is that the Wrangler 4xe is still a Wrangler! What does that mean? Well, over the years, Jeep has been one of the top choices among off-road enthusiasts due to its superior off-road capability. Even if you set aside all the capability features and focus on the structural design, you'll notice it was built to be capable. For starters, the 4xe provides a daunting 10.8 inches of ground clearance for easy passage over rugged terrain. For passing through up to 30 inches of water, this clearance is backed by a highly placed air intake, sealed electrical connections, and the battery pack being placed underneath the rear seat where it's protected from water, dirt, rocks, and debris. All 4xe models come with full-time 4x4 with a two-speed transfer case, Dana 44 solid front and rear axles, fully articulating suspension, and high-clearance trapezoidal fender flares. Lastly, the 4xe's torque is certainly worth noting by itself. All 470 lb-ft of torque is available immediately upon pressing the gas pedal. This allows for quick and seamless acceleration and unparalleled low-speed crawling control.
