Spotlight on Jeep's Powertrains

FCA US is reaffirming their commitment to developing and producing the best drivetrains on the market for extraordinary performance in a variety of environments. Take a look below at some of the best powertrains that the Jeep Active Drive line has to offer!

FCA US continues to be a global leader in creating axle-disconnect and active-transfer-case technologies, in particular when applying them to a multitude of vehicle segments, from pickups to sedans, crossovers and SUV's. "Intrepid and adventurous character is baked into our vehicles," said Jeff Lux, Vice President - Transmission Powertrain, FCA - North America. "It has to be, because our customers have places to go. Our all-wheel-drive and 4x4 systems are engineered to help them arrive at their destinations safely and efficiently, using the right technologies - some of which have redefined the industry landscape."

Jeep Active Drive I
This is available on the Cherokee Sport, Latitude and Limited models. The drivetrain features a fully automatic single PTU, delivering smooth operation in and out of four-wheel drive, and at any speed. Jeep Active Drive I features balanced torque distribution in addition to brake traction control. The system does not require any driver feedback or intervention, and it works to improve both understeer and oversteer conditions.

Jeep Active Drive II
Available on the Cherokee Sport, Latitude and Limited models, the Jeep Active Drive II boasts a two-speed PTU with both torque management and a low range. A 4-Low mode locks the rear and front drive shafts for low speed towing or power. The Jeep Active Drive II works in correlation with Jeep's Selec-Terrain system, which aggressively modifies the torque distribution, monitors the engine transmission and ESC system, as well as provides power to the wheel that will be able to deliver the most traction. This gear reduction improves climbing ability, and offers excellent crawl ratios for severe off-road conditions.

Jeep Active Drive Lock
The Jeep Active Drive Lock is standard on all of the Trailhawk models, and the Selec-Terrain traction control allows the driver to easily choose the appropriate on- or off-road setting for the highest performance. It coordinates and optimizes around 12 systems on a variety of terrains to provide enhanced vehicle control through the drivetrain control modules transmission controller, electronic brake controller, powertrain controller, and Selec-Speed Control (Hill-ascent and Hill-descent Control). Jeep Active Drive Lock has all the features of Jeep Active Drive II, in addition to a locking rear differential for extraordinary low-speed power for extreme conditions.
