Summer Road Trip in Ohio: Water Parks

Just in time for Summer: Water Park Hacks

Summer is coming and if you've got kids, that means sun and fun and maybe even a day trip to a water park. Your local area likely has a water park near by. If you live in Ohio, you can find a great park right in Chardon, Pioneer Waterland Park. You've got everyone's bathing suits and towels packed, but here are a few easy life hacks to make your day at the water park all fun and no work. OK, maybe just a little work but mostly fun.

  • Wet cellphones are no fun so keep your phone dry and safe by placing it inside a plastic bag. Your phone will stay dry while you get wet. Before you drop your phone in the bag, snap a pic of the place you parked so you aren't searching for your car at the end of the day.
  • A day of cannonballs into the pool or dives into the water can lead to water in your kid's ears. Ouch! Have your kids blow up a balloon for instant relief from the clogged ear! This is a great trick for mom and dad too.
  • Protect your kiddo's precious skin and reapply sunscreen every two hours (less if they have been in the water). To remind yourself, set the alarm on your phone, download an app (you can find lots of free apps), or write on the back of sunscreen bottle the times you need to reapply.
  • A very important item you need for a trip to the water park is dog poo bags. Yes dog poo bags! Throw a roll of these bags into your bag for wet bathing suits, dirty diapers, sunblock explosions, taking home small prizes, and every other mess or blowout you can and can't plan for. The bags are small but super handy.
  • Bring a refillable water bottles for everyone so you don't need to spend money buying water for everyone.
  • Arrive when the park opens so you will have your pick of slides and eat lunch early. This way when everyone is eating lunch around noon, the slides won't be crowded.
  • After a day of fun in the sun, your skin might need some relief. Freeze aloe vera in ice-cube trays for cool relief or put the entire bottle in the fridge for a quick cool down. If your skin is really hurting, dip a shirt or washcloth in white vinegar and apply to your skin to take out the sting and soreness from the sunburn.
