Maintenance Schedule for your Ram 1500
Service your Ram 1500 at Junction CDJR!
The Ram 1500 is a well-made truck designed to handle just about anything you can throw at it. To keep it that way, however, Ram recommends following a maintenance schedule that will help extend the life of your truck and keep you on the road. This maintenance schedule from Ram is a rough outline, but the exact time between services depends on driving habits, vehicle usage, and everyday road conditions. Continue reading below to learn how to best take care of your Ram 1500. Then, schedule your next service appointment with Junction Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram.
When Should I Get My Ram 1500's First Oil Change?
Ram 1500 models are equipped with an Oil Change Indicator. This intelligent sensor analyzes oil quality, engine size, driving conditions, and more to calculate when to get an oil change. The mileage between oil changes depends on the model year, oil type, and oil quality. Your driving conditions also directly impact how frequently you should change your oil. For instance, under light, everyday usage, a Ram 1500 can be driven between 7,500 and 10,000 miles between oil changes. In moderate conditions or with occasional light towing, drivers can change the oil every 5,000 to 8,000 miles. Under extreme conditions, like off-roading or heavy towing, Ram recommends changing the oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. Ram also says to never go longer than 10,000 miles or one year without changing the oil, whichever comes first. Ram recommends inspecting the engine air filter, exhaust system, engine cooling system, brakes, battery, and rotating the tires at every oil change.
Every 20,000 miles
When your Ram 1500 reaches 20,000 miles, it's essential to check a few additional items. First, the brake lines should be inspected for cracks or leaks. Additionally, the suspension system should be inspected, ensuring that no mechanical components are broken or malfunctioning. Finally, at 20,000 miles, it is also recommended that the cabin air filter is also recommended to be replaced.
Every 30,000 miles
At 30,000 miles, Ram recommends inspecting the drivetrain components. The front and rear axle surfaces should be checked for loose oil, which indicates a leak. In addition, the gearbox oil in the front differential, rear differential, and transfer case should all be inspected and replaced if necessary. If you use your Ram truck for frequent towing or off-roading, it's recommended that you change these fluids every 30,000 miles. Also, at 30,000 miles, be sure to replace the engine air filter.
At 100,000 miles
Before reaching 100,000 miles, at 60,000 miles, Ram recommends doing the 20,000 and 30,000-mile services. At 100,000 miles, the 20,000-mile services should be performed. Additionally, the engine coolant should be flushed and replaced, and the spark plugs should be inspected and replaced if necessary. The Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve or PCV valve should also be inspected and replaced if necessary at 100,000 miles. The PCV valve is a one-way valve attached to the crankcase, which holds your engine oil. Waste gases leave the crankcase through the valve to be recycled to the engine air intake system to be mixed with fuel and burned.
